A year-long campaign to raise money for women’s causes has resulted in more than $7,000 in donations by Chelsea Senior Living communities to various non-profits that directly benefit women.
“The majority of our residents are women and 96% of our employees are women,” said Herb Heflich, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chelsea Senior Living. “So, it made sense to embark on a campaign to help women who need assistance of various types.”
Fundraisers were held at Chelsea communities including sales of clothing, jewelry and baked goods, raffles, a chicken wing cook-off, golf outing and two “ladies’ night” events that featured entertainment, wine and cheese.
The most money raised was by Maple Pointe Assisted Living, a Chelsea-operated community in Rockville Centre, Long Island, which raised a total of $2,155 through a month-long bake sale in July and an October chicken-wing cook-off that involved several local restaurants. The funds were donated to the Maurer Foundation, a Mineola-based non-profit specializing in breast health education and awareness.
The greatest amount of funding raised by the New Jersey communities, $4,100, went to The Linda & Rudy Slucker NCJW Center for Women (CFW), a nonsectarian service-provider sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, Essex Country Section. Located in Livingston, CFW provides a variety of support groups for women and children, dating-abuse education for teens and skills training for women forced to re-enter the workforce. The sum was reached through a $1,000 corporate donation from Chelsea Senior Living, as well as $3,100 raised through various sales and events at Chelsea residences in Brick, Fanwood, Manalapan, Montville, Toms River and Warren.
The Chelsea at Tinton Falls and The Worthington in Brick raised a total of $750 for the Monmouth County group 180 Turning Lives Around, which provides services to victims of domestic abuse.
Chelsea’s New Jersey communities are also taking part in a cell-phone recycling program, which pays cash for used cell phones deposited in boxes in the lobbies. Proceeds will also benefit the NCJW.
